The menu was diverse pizza, entrees and sanwiches. The food we ordered was eclectic...we had chicken sandwich, patty melt, crab stuffed mahi and panseared scallops. The sides were a bit limited in that the choices did not offer a pasta or rice to absorb the tasty sauces. However the most interesting part is the location...facing an airfield in a gated neighborhood of homes with their own airplane hangers. Sit outside to watch takeoffs and landings.

Nice ambiance. Lady singing was great. Love their little sitting outside. Food was ok but nothing too special.

Really understated and nice. But hard to find iij n the dark, differently a GPS needed. On the airstrip at the flying. Really right on it, you have to cross it to get to the cafe.

I just downgraded from 4 stars to three, ownership has changed and the food had noticeably declined. Service as well. I have it three stars because of the outside seating on the taxiway, and it's convenient location when you are in the spruce Creek fly in. Without those factors it probably would be a 2.5.

I have been coming to the Downwind Cafe for years now and have always enjoyed my time dining on their unique patio in front of the planes. Since new ownership/management has taken over it doesn't have it warm and friendly atmosphere as it use to and food takes a little longer to get but I think that this just takes time to get back into their new groove. If you're looking for a something different and unique this is the place to go.

Great food, very relaxing

We love going to the Downwind, and always have great service and great food. ALWAYS great service and food. What I don't love however is the manager berating the staff in front of customers. Honestly, the way he speaks to them, is awful. Regardless of if it is in front of customers or not, I am surprised they stay there and endure his wrath. He is unpleasant and rude, and often appears disorganized and does not communicate well with the customers when there is a wait or when tables are being cleaned. We eat here at least 1 - 2x a week, and it is almost certain that every time we go, and if he is there, I will witness some embarrassing situation that he creates for the staff. We should all treat each other with more kindness and if he is not happy with his staff, he should make a change instead of speaking to them the way he does. It does not reflect well.

This was a fun experience: sitting outside, watching and listening to the planes. However, our burgers were not cooked very well and the fries were not a generous portion for the price. The pizza looked good so I should have ordered that. The owner was nice but no water was offered. I hate giving unfavorable reviews but honestly I’m unsure if I would go back. They need to check the food before it goes out.

Top notch service tonight. Large party. Everything was great except the corned beef sandwich. Waiter proactively took it off the bill. If it stays like this then I will highly recommend.

The food is always delicious but I think the portions are too small for the price tag. Also, musical entertainment is hit or miss. Sometimes its so good, you stay for drinks and dessert. Other times, the guy singing is so off key or odd it alters my enjoyment of my meal and my company. The staff is always bright, kind, and attentive. As I stated, the food is yummy, just pricy.

Great service, we were seated as soon as we walked in and served our drinks which for sweet tea was made great! Especially having peach tea too. Timing between our appetizers and lunch was well done and it all came out delicious! The plating was pretty too! I had just the basics of fried mozzarella and cheese pizza. While my fiancé had crab cakes which were loaded with fresh tasting crab and a mahi taco!

Been going there for years and still like it

This place is a good chance to see smaller aircraft using the taxiways that run right past this location. The service is friendly and prompt. Ordered a large pizza...it's looked great , but oops, the bottom crust was burnt, couldn't eat it, it happens. When I showed it to the waitress, she promptly said "she would take care of it". Our next pizza was perfect, look great and tasted even better. When the check came out server said " so sorry about the pizza....the dessert on us what would you like". Nice lunch good people we'll be back.

Great place for lunch

Food needs some work in flavoring. A little heavy handed on their salting technique. Frozen Lasagna that comes out still cold at its core despite being baked in their oven for some time before serving the guests. Either hire a high end Chef to justify the high end price and support it with outstanding flavorful food OR Lower your price to reflect the actual level of food quality. It is NOT a 4 star restaurant, though I think they dreamt or believe they may be. Realistically, this is a Diner level food with a prime location. Tucked right next to a taxiway at this Fly In Community. You can eat and watch Airplanes landing and taking off just a few yards from your table. If that is your passion, then you have the Best Seat in the house at Down Wind Cafe. STILL, a convenient place to dine out and socialize for the residents who live there and their guests, without having to leave the community.

The food was great. I loved the pizza and loved the restaurant. It's in an airport area, with houses by the runway and taxiway, also you share roads with planes. I saw small utility vehicles towing planes, and ones driving by while we ate outside. Some of the lights in the restaurant are shaped like planes, which is really cool. I love this place and it is a unique experience.
